One week into our Adventure
Today is Friday the 8th of July we have been travelling for just over a week. We are in Montreal and right on the itinerary we set during the winter. The weather other then Wednesday has been perfect, perhaps too perfect. The wind has been light and at our backs thus the motor has barely been off. We will get diesel this morning and will have used almost a full tank or 80 litres.
While at Valleyfield I met a lady who said their were more whales in the St Lawrence this year then ever before. We cannot wait. Because of this and the fact that the current is very strong we are not staying at the Royal St Lawrence today but moving on to at least Longueuil. This will put us one day ahead of the schedule. I think we will need it on the way back up the river.
The locks were not too bad. We were not the biggest boat thus not on the wall, but I did help the boat on the wall. I am told that the trip up the river is worst, but manageable. Today we have the Cote-Sainte-Catherine Lock and the Saint-Lambert Lock. I have been told they both drop about 14 feet compared to the 40 feet of the last 4.
We have eaten out for dinner almost every night. Last night was the best meal yet at the Royal St Lawrence. Both Trish and I had steak. With a reasonably priced bottle of wine the bill was over $100 about the same as RCYC. The room or balcony we were in was not as full as the Bistro on a nice night. I imagine they have the same challenge getting members to use their facilities as we do.
I had a chat with here manager who was very nice and very helpful. We got on to talking about dress code. He was amused or relieved to hear the challenge with dress code was universal.
French has not been a problem. Everyone is most helpful and all speak English better then my French. A couple of times I have asked them to help me with my French that it is unfair if they improve their English at the expense of my French.
