The Adventures of The Federal Mankinac

We got to the two American Locks at 9 o'clock only to be told that we would go through at 1310. There were two down bound ships and one up bound ship. When the up bound cleared the lock we would go in.

The first down bound came alone followed by the Federal Mackinac. The first ship moved very slowly but went in and down. Then the Federal Mackinac game along at even a slower pace. When it got to the entrance it lowered it's anchor and very slowly came to rest the other side of the pier we were tied to. It was perfect landing, but why. It turned out that on the way in they had lost their power. The next picture is inside the lock. I cannot remember if it is the Eisenhower or the Snell, they were about identical.
